Our Hemp Hearts are #1 grade. Hemp is one of the hardiest and most versatile plants. It can be refined into various commercial items, including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, animal feed, and human nutrition. Scientists believe that humans have cultivated hemp for its nutritional, medicinal, and industrial properties for more than ten thousand years, and it is widely considered to be one of humanity’s first domesticated crops.
Production: Our raw, whole hemp hearts (aka hemp seed hearts or hemp nuts) are the result of the mechanical removal of the outer shell of the hemp seeds. Hulled hemp seed hearts have a higher overall percentage of protein and are much sweeter and nuttier in flavor than the whole hemp seed.
Qualities: Hemp seed provides an excellent source of protein because it contains all 21 known amino acids and, as a plant-based source of protein, stands out for being especially easy for the body to digest and absorb. It is a rich source of B vitamins, dietary minerals such as manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, iron, and both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber.
Common use: pleasantly mild and nutty taste and exceptional nutritional density makes it an outstanding addition to a wide variety of foods and beverages including smoothies, energy bars, sprinkled on salads or in dressings, soups, stews, any baked goods recipes like muffins or pancake mixes (at a 25% hemp to 75% flour ratio), or enjoy it straight out of the bag! If you’re looking for an alternative to dairy milk, try blending one part hemp seed with four parts water to create your hemp milk.
Storage: it is recommended to store in cool (refrigerated or frozen), dark, and airtight conditions in order to minimize oxidation and prolong its shelf life.
