Qualities: One of the most popular and versatile dried fruits, dates are an endless source of nutrients and an excellent sugar alternative. Chewy and sweet, they are packed with fiber (a ½ cup of dates is approximately 22% of daily fibre intake) and potassium, magnesium, and manganese. Traditionally, dates were used to break fasts as they have high carbohydrate and sugar contents, immediately raising blood sugars and providing instantaneous energy.

Common Use: Date rolls make for an excellent snack when camping or hiking, as they are full of protein and energy. Also, a delicious dessert!
